I love books! I bought several new books at Homeschooling Convention this year. One of which I started last week. It was full of descriptive words painting great pictures in my mind. I just LOVE stories like that. I can remove myself from what is happening around me and be totally engrossed in the story line. Ask my family they can tell you, it's true. (I can do that for TV too, but that's another issue)
At this point, I bet you are wondering...What's the title? MOTHER by Kathleen Norris.
"Mother is not a great work of literature, like something by Shakespeare or Austen or Dickens. It is not a work of high art or lofty prose. It is the simple story of one young woman's journey from discontentment to understanding and, finally, to joy....There is no shame in godly womanhood. There is no inferiority in being a wife, a mother, a daughter, or a servant. To call the Proverbs 31 woman "restricted" or "liberated" is to miss the point...."pro-life novel of the century." " ~from the Forward to the book.
Here is an excerpt from the book:
"You know...these days, when women just serenely ignore the question of children, or at most, as a special concession, bring up one or two-just the one or two whose expenses can be comfortably met! -there's something magnificent in a woman like your mother, who begins eight destinies instead of one!...she puts her whole splendid philosophy into her nursery-launches sound little bodies and minds that have their first growth cleanly and purely about her knees. Responsibility-that's what these other women are afraid of! But it seems to me there's no responsibility like that of decreeing that young lives simply shall not be..." pg 182-183
Wow! This was a great book and I highly recommend it! If you'd like to read it, email me and I'll send you my copy (only if you promise to send it back when you're done!).
