I finally finished it! This soft, blue shawl is finally done. I think I've been working on it for three weeks total. There are a few imperfections, but overall, I'm happy how it turned out.
A wonderful friend has started teaching me knitting. She started me on scarves in November. I finished three before Christmas. My first was, Ok, but I learned quickly how to pick the softest yarn. The first one is not the softest of yarns, so it's in the glove, hat and scarf box in my hall closet. The second scarf, I used cashmere yarn and gave it to my mom for Christmas. The third was made with an Alpaca yarn and it was for my grandmother. I have since made another scarf, for one of the kids, with Alpaca yarn again and added tassels.
The blue shawl (above) is for my Emily. I wanted to make her the first shawl, she is, after all, our first. I thought it was fitting. I know you can't tell how soft it is, but the first thing she said to me was, "OH! Mom it is sooo soft. " I hope she treasures it forever. The other girls have already put in their order for pink shawls.
I am amazed at how relaxing knitting is. I can totally relax and think. It has become a nice time for me to talk to God and for Him to talk to me. Knitting has even helped me loose weight! Really, I'm not kidding! When I want to snack, and I know I shouldn't, I grab my knitting bag and get busy. It takes my mind off the refrigerator and the snack cabinet. Silly...I know.
I asked the Lord if I was spending too much time on knitting and the verse that came to mind was Proverbs 31:27 - "She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness." So, if my household is taken care of, then knitting sounds good to me!

Where did you get the pattern? Was it easy? I think my girls would love one.

How fun! I have wanted to learn to crochet, but have yet to force myself to sit still long enough. You have almost convinced me ;)
