teaching my boys to read has got to be the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I was so frustrated trying to get them to follow phonics CD's and review sounds that I just gave up. I called Dh on Wednesday last week and told him I was done. He was so sweet. He gently talked to me and reassured me that everything would work out. I hung up and prayed. Isn't it terrible that the last thing I try is prayer? I should have tried it first, because I felt so much better. I mean God can surely identify with my pain and suffering. He tries to teach us (me included) everyday about himself and do we listen? Most of the time...no. We go around and around the same thing stumbling over and over, while God watches.
It has been the same with the boys and reading. Reading with them has been painful, and hilarious at the same time. Some of the words they come up with are terrible and, out of total frustration, I burst in to laughter because otherwise I'd cry! I am so glad that God is a perfect father. I'm glad He never gets as frustrated with me as I do my boys. "Oh, to be like thee..."
Yesterday, I stepped in the boys' Sunday School class and the teacher says, "Oh, the boys just read our lesson." I stopped. They were so proud and so was I! I could have jumped for joy! I tried not embarass them, giving them high-fives as I walked out! Hurray! I think a light bulb went on and I don't even know when. God must have seen me, thrown across my bed begging for help. He totally identified with me last Wednesday and helped these boys, because there is no other explanation. I know we are not totally there yet, but a major bump in the road has been crossed and I am thankful to God for delivering me!

that is awesome...reading, in particular, can be quite trying. Look into these: rocknlearn videos.
they really are good. We have a beginning letter sounds video...my 2 year old knows the sounds that the letters make. I really like them....we have 4...out of MANY (and they have some for math and such, too.)
I ordered mine through the academicsuperstore (I think it was called) and got it just 2 days after placing the order.
