SPIDERS!

Most who know me well know I don't like spiders. I can't even stand the little bitty ones. Now, I can kill the little itty-bitty ones, but the larger ones, no way. I am not getting that close. I almost wrecked the van on Wed evening, because a spider was on the dashboard! And it was a fast moving thing, I had no time to think of how I was going to kill the thing before it was headed for the edge and on to my body! I reached out and smacked the thing, screamed and let go of the steering wheel! Luckily, we didn't hit anyone or anything, but it could have been bad, the fire hydrant was right in my path!

This is generally the reaction that happens when I see a spider of any kind. But, the last few nights I have found myself watching, with intrigue, as some weird looking spider makes his web, night after night, outside our back door. David and I stand there and just watch as he works fervently to make his web. It is really neat. But, rest assured my dear friends there are two panes of glass between me and this weird looking spider, so I feel perfectly safe. Still after I walk away from seeing him in his habitat, I get the gross feeling, like bugs are crawling all over me. This generally happens too.

Forward to this morning, I was getting the bins ready for vacation. We travel in rubbermaid like bins, it's easier for a large family to travel that way. One bin for each kid and it keeps things fairly organized. We keep these bins in the garage to use only for traveling. Our garage is well...a disaster area. I call it "creepyville" and for good reason. As I was bringing one in I see this black, very nasty looking spider hanging and immediately scream bloody murder. I have no shoes on and I'm yelling for someone to bring me a shoe, while keeping my eyes on the thing. Ooohhh- it just gives me the willys thinking about it now. Needless to say, he met his maker immediately. I think he was a black widow. I would have to just guessat this point, because I squished him so badly that he was unrecognizable. I have seen one here before in the back yard and he was similar. I just didn't wait to look for the red spot. I know they are around the area, but my garage!! I have to do laundry out there!

I'm sure for the rest of the day I'll be feeling "spidery". I think David will be bringing in the rest of the bins. I'm not taking anymore chances. I can handle spiders outside, but not in my house and the garage counts as a part of my house! I'll see if I can get a picture of our back yard spider for you guys, but it will have to be through the glass!
