Wow! We are having a blast this summer! This is the first summer that I haven't been "tied-down" babysitting. I am still babysitting, but I can tailor the times to allow time for my kids to do fun stuff, too. Wednesdays have become our fun-filled day and the kids are loving it!
First, we went to the FREE summer movie. The local theater shows older movies for free, but seating is limited, so you must go early. The movie starts at 10am, but we get there at 915am to make sure we get seats. We are a large bunch, you know. Littlest dd always comments whether we've beaten the buses or not. Take yesterday for example, we needed to get gas before we went to the movie, because someone left it for us on EMPTY. So, that put us about 10 minutes behind our normal time. When we pulled in the parking lot of the theater, littlest says, "Oohh, NO! Look at all those buses! We are in BIG trouble!" How could I not laugh? We literally ran to the building, just making it in ahead of the next bus that was pulling up out front. Tip for those on a tight budget -we don't eat during the movie. Since the movie is in the morning, I just make sure they've eaten a good breakfast. I do keep a water bottle in my purse for the few kids that tell me they are about to die from thirst.
And, just to make things even more interesting, we do not go to the movie alone. We always meet our friends there! I'm not sure if this is really for the kids or for us Moms, but if we have to go why not enjoy it and get some adult conversation in! We normally go with 6 other children and 2 more Moms, making the total 11 kids and 3 Moms, but yesterday, our friends from Life at La Geron came too! We had 15 kids and 4 Moms! It was GREAT! After the movie, everyone is invited to our house for lunch. We Moms talk ahead of time and everyone brings something to add to the lunch, so it's really not hard on anyone. You can hardly hear yourself think when all the kids are supposedly eating around the table, the talking and laughing is enough to deafen you.
Then off to the pool we go, hi-ho, hi-ho. We joined the neighborhood pool and friends can go too, so it's pool time after lunch. We spend several hours at the pool and come home around 4pm to crash! I love going to the pool with friends. All the kids go and play, leaving the Moms alone, so we can talk! We still have the occasional, "Look at me, Mom" but, all in all, they leave us alone. The pool and sun can totally wipe out any kid, at least littlest. Again, I'm not sure who benefits more, the kids or the Moms! Then we have a little dinner and off to church we go, hi-ho, hi-ho.
I really need a clothes line...then I wouldn't have to let the pool towels dry on the front porch!

sounds like a great summer!!!
That was so fun! Yep the gas was what threw us off. It was so worth getting up early and coming down. Thanks for having us!
Love ya!
K. I'm officially jealous. You and Peg get to see each other more often! This is a great way to keep up with you guys during the year. You've got me thinking about blogging now. It might be a while before I give in though, because I'm enjoying reading yours. Peg's blog is next now.
