Naps?

When do you stop making kids take naps? Is there a magical age or does it depend on the child? A friend of ours, who is mom to 9, makes all her kids "lie down" for an hour each day. If they fall asleep, then so be it.

I personally love the idea! I don't want dad to come home and all the kids be so tired that all they can do is whine! Which, by the way, he can not stand whining! One of my twins definitely needs a nap every other day or he gets NASTY and I mean terribly grumpy. I thought that by the time he was 6 that he would have outgrown naps, but it always makes him feel better and the rest of family doesn't suffer. I wonder what Mrs. Dugger does? The older kids can read or listen to their MP3 players, but it's going to be quiet.

I've made up my mind, but I'm wondering what you think!
To rest or not to rest?

I love your last post on Reflections. I have seen that movie...it is beautiful.

Naps. My oldest and 3rd "outgrew" theirs by 3....meaning they refused to fall asleep. My first grader, if he is left alone for long enough, zonks out for about 2 hours. My baby (2 years) sleeps for about 3 hours.

Anyway, we have a mandatory quiet time everyday from 12:30-3:30. The older 2 can watch a movie, read, or play games in their rooms. They may go play with each other if they are quiet. My 3rd lies down to a movie and my baby just goes down.

good luck :D

Girl you know we do naps! It's the only way to function with my beloved. We do our read alouds first and then the older girls have to get in their rooms on their beds until we come back upstairs. Sometimes they sleep - sometimes they don't. IMO it's a necessity living the way we do.
Love ya!
